Week 3

Here we are, week 3 of the new year, and I have yet to go back and review my garden notes from last year. The current temperature outside is 3 degrees Fahrenheit (-16 Celsius), with a wind making it feel even colder. We got a small amount of snow, so at least there is something pretty to view from the windows. I have to admit the garden is the last thing on my mind right now. I’m not ready to plan, review, or even think about seeds. I’m just too damn cold. I spend my time by the fire, in my jammies, beanie, and scarf, wrapped in a blanket, drinking hot drinks. Heaters struggle to keep up, and the windows and doors become drafty. There is a constant annoying sound of the sink faucets running and drainage pipes dripping to prevent exterior lines from freezing. The stars are radiant and plentiful on clear nights, and snowy, overcast nights are bright and reflective. It’s hard to believe just six months ago, I was sleeping outside in 100-degree (37) weather due to a spring storm knocking out the power. Oklahoma typically gets single-digit temperatures at least one to two times throughout the winter, but it only lasts a few days. I already see a warm-up to the 50s (10s) with rain in our ten-day forecast.
