Week 47 recap + 48 plans

This time of year marks the end of my flower gardening season. Although I still have a few tasks left in the garden, my time is free for Christmas decorating. We like to get started illuminating for Christmas right after Thanksgiving lunch. It takes us nearly the entire weekend to get the lights up; it is a task we both enjoy. Husband will get the giant ladder out and staple the lights along the fascia boards of our roof line; it sounds and feels like a scene from the National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation movie. My job is to check all the bulbs and run extension cords to the outlets. This year, I am adding lights to the carpet juniper shrubs that drape along the top of our rock-walled back patio. I also wrapped the trunk of a crape myrtle and added a few small Christmas trees to the rear windows. I love adding lights to the backyard; seeing the color from our windows is beautiful. I also use this weekend to light all my indoor Christmas trees; lighting is a task I take seriously and thoroughly enjoy. Christmas lighting is warming and romantic.

Now that the garage sale is over and donations are collected, I’ve been able to put my house back together. I rummaged through closets, pulled everything out to find garage sale items, and left a mess everywhere. It feels good to have clean cabinets and more space in our home; I’m so happy to have that extra stuff out.
